It was May 2015 when we first arrived in Koufonisia. We had escaped the crowds of Santorini and jumped on the first ferry we could find—it was headed to Naxos, where we stayed for a couple of days. Daniele vaguely remembered reading something good about Koufonisia, so we thought, “Why not?”. Thanks to the mythological Express Skopelitis, we (slowly) made our way there.
The moment we arrived, we were mesmerized—the color of the water at the port was so stunning, it made you want to jump straight into the sea from the ferry. We knew right away that the island had something special. Almost no cars, just a handful of shops, and a rhythm so relaxed it instantly slows you down. On Koufonisia, everything revolves around the sea.
You walk along the coast from beach to beach, lounge at a taverna, and stroll under the stars on your way back from the Chora. That’s the only kind of plan you’ll make—and the only one you’ll want.
With this spirit in mind, we’ve chosen Finikas—not a typical fancy wedding venue, but one that feels like home. It’s a place where we’ve spent countless hours enjoying simple pleasures and heartfelt conversations. For us, it’s a reminder that less is more, and we couldn’t imagine celebrating our special day anywhere else.
We’ve returned every year since. It’s our place of the heart, where we recharge, reconnect, and just be. And now, we’re so happy to share it with you.
Fun fact: We still believe we might have seen bioluminescence in the sea in front of the taverna, but it probably was just too much ouzo. If we tell you this story when we’re there, please nod, smile and play along ;)
